[THEME] JustCSS

My newest theme has been finished!
Well, finished enough to release a download anyway!

JustCSS is a child theme so you need to install ToolBox first. You can do this right from the themes menu or downloading it from here. You dont have to activate it, just have it installed, the child theme will use its files automagically.

JustCSS includes the toolbox files as part of the theme, so no need to install toolbox theme beforehand.

Now download JustCSS and activate it like any other theme! That it!

Here is the download: JustCSS

This theme has been downloaded [thcount name=justcss] times from the themes directory.

    I have been cleaning up a few things in your CSS style.css. I have a question why do you not have HTML5 tags set to display:block;

    header, footer, section, aside, nav, article {
    display:block;
    }

  2. Pross on 29th July 2010 at 4:16 pm

    Its my first venture with html5, didn’t realize IE needed it. Ive started to recode the theme including all the toolbox files in the package so it can be submitted to wordpress. Ive included a html5 reset css. I’ll post an update when its ready 🙂

    Testing a new version of this theme, Ive included the ToolBox so the theme is self contained. i will be adding a small options page to tweak the colours and a couple of other small options.

    • Pross on 5th August 2010 at 9:23 pm

      Colours added, working on other options now 🙂

    Hello Pross,

    I tried to install the justCSS theme on my site but I get this:
    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: register_nav_menus() in /homepages/26/d172457784/htdocs/wp-content/themes/justcss/functions/toolbox.php on line 26

    Any idea what this means a how I can fix it? Could be my WP install which has been a bit buggy lately. I say this ‘cus it seems to work fine on the Englshh version – quoi9.net/english

    Anyway, if you’ve any idea what the problem is it would be appreciated – Like the thmem a lot, Thanks

    robi coulson

  6. Pross on 13th August 2010 at 5:22 pm

    register_nav_menus() was introduced in version 3.0 sounds like you have an out of date installation.

  7. robi coulson on 13th August 2010 at 5:38 pm

    Yes, it’s 2.9 so that’s no doubt it – thanks

    • Pross on 13th August 2010 at 6:17 pm

      You should update 😉

  8. Indiafacts on 18th August 2010 at 8:51 am

    Pross, forgive me for being an amateur, but how can I remove the { } ‘s in the masthead? Thank you, sir! And fine work!

    • pross on 7th September 2010 at 3:59 pm

      look for these lines in justcss.css:
      #site-title a:before{content:'{'}
      #site-title a:after{content:'}'}

    • pross on 9th September 2010 at 9:14 pm

      This is now an option in the latest version (0.6)

    I’m trying to change the font colors to go better with my custom background but I’m having troubel figuring out where to do this – eg. I want to change the color the header from black to a shade of blue.

  11. pross on 10th September 2010 at 5:09 pm

    look for #site-title a in css/justcss.css

    • Sassymonkey on 10th September 2010 at 11:53 pm

      Thank you. I appreciate it.

      I love how you can make the background seamless with this theme but I have to admit I’m struggling with figuring out how to modify things like heading colors and fonts.

      • pross on 11th September 2010 at 8:16 am

        Experiment with firebug then use my template-overide plugin to keep the chamges.

        • Sassymonkey on 11th September 2010 at 2:34 pm

          I’ve been playing with firebug but I’m not sure what you mean by your template-override plugin?

            Thank you! And most of all thank you for your patience.

            (And of course now WordPress is refusing to see the uploaded plug-in. I am having A DAY.)

  12. pross on 11th September 2010 at 4:18 pm

    Try using the built in plugin installer..

    • Sassymonkey on 11th September 2010 at 4:22 pm

      That worked. Thanks again!

    Hi There!

    A newbie here. Is there a way to resize the pics on my home page? They’re just too large!

    Thank you.

    • pross on 1st February 2011 at 4:40 pm

      Yes it does, this site is running ‘bleeding edge’

  18. qazi28 on 16th February 2011 at 3:49 am

    How do I put Categories on the side bar, just like Archives and Meta? This way, people can sort by category. Thanks.

    • pross on 16th February 2011 at 4:11 pm

      Add a categories widget.

      • qazi28 on 17th February 2011 at 4:10 pm

        How? Sorry, I am new to this.

      • pross on 17th February 2011 at 4:14 pm

        In you admin panel, look under appearance, click widgets then add the categories widget to the sidebar.

        I see you have edited the theme files! ( i followed your link ) this is bad, oyu edits will be lost when you update the theme down the road!
        If you want your logo, just rename it logo.jpg and put it into a folder called img in the theme dir, ie wp-content/justcss/img/logo.jpg it will be used automatically by the theme.

    Hi, Simon Prosser.

    I have a newbie question: If i want to change some styles, should i redefine them in style.css (admin -> Appereance -> Themes -> Editor -> style.css)? It seems the file isn’t included in any of the generated html: I can only see html5reset-css and justcss-css.

    Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Daniel.

    • pross on 11th April 2011 at 5:28 pm

      Daniel,
      Thanks for pointing out this bug!
      I have patched the theme on my git repo, here is a link to the change, just add the line highlighted in green.

        Hi, Simon.

        I’ll try later. Thanks.

        Just to be sure: Is JustCSS released under which License? GPL? LGPL?

        Best regards,

        Daniel.

      • Daniel Henrique on 11th April 2011 at 11:32 pm

        Hi, Simon.

        It still doesn’t work for me because TEMPLATEPATH == STYLESHEETPATH. I don’t know anything about WP. Why TEMPLATEPATH should be different of STYLESHEETPATH?

        Thanks.

        Best regards.

    • pross on 11th April 2011 at 7:31 pm

      Its GPL v2

      • pross on 12th April 2011 at 4:33 am

        You need to create a child theme 😉 Then your custom css will be picked up!

      • Daniel Henrique on 12th April 2011 at 10:48 pm

        Hi, Simon. How do i create a child theme? I was changing the files using the editor feature in admin app (admin -> Appereance -> Themes -> Editor -> style.css).

        Thanks.

        Best regards,

        Daniel.

        • pross on 13th April 2011 at 12:17 am

          There are plenty of tutorials on child themes 😉
          Heres one I wrote years ago! The info is still the same 🙂

    Hi, Simon.

    Any idea why does the layout seem weird here (http://techdm.com/grails/?p=87&lang=en) when using Firefox 4? The other pages seem ok, so i’m suspecting of SyntaxHighlighter, but i’m not sure.

    Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Daniel.

    • Matt on 28th April 2011 at 8:19 pm

      I am having the exact same problem. Would love to fix this!

      I think it has to do with the html5 and Firefox compatibility hacks described in the ~/wp-content/themes/justcss/css/ folder.

      I haven’t been able to tweak or repair it in any significant way. Very frustrating, would love any tips.

      • pross on 30th April 2011 at 12:14 pm

        Just make your width slightly bigger. Like 1025 not 1024 in the control panel.

    I am having an issue where the selected picture is being displayed twice on the tag and archive pages. If you could take a look I’d be greatly appreciative.
    Example of problem: http://www.beerguyla.com/tag/barleywine/

  24. Tony on 6th August 2012 at 6:26 pm

    I am trying to add a custom header(1024px x 170px). I created a folder named ‘img’ inside of my child themes folder and named the header image ‘logo.jpg’ and put it in this folder. The Site Title disappears but the logo.jpg image does not show. The Tagline still shows.

  25. Peter on 3rd March 2013 at 12:25 pm

    Same problem as tony here.
    If someone could give us a solution it would be awesome.

  26. Peter on 8th March 2013 at 2:10 pm

    Yeah that did the trick for me. Thanks!!
    An option to center the logo would also be awesome or something, but that is just a suggestion.
