Finally I have been able to try out nginx its a very small web server. I wanted to give php fastcgi a chance and waited for dotdeb to package php-fpm along with php 5.3.1. So far the results are amazing, load has dropped to almost nothing!

I made a patch for wordpress core to add support for .asc files to be uploaded. These are used mainly for public keys etc. http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/11103 2.9 is frozen so my patch will hopefully get into 2.9.1
